SME Bank of Cambodia celebrated the groundbreaking ceremony of the Funan Techo Canal project with a drum-beating event

On the morning of Monday, August 5, 2024, SME Bank of Cambodia and the Business Development Center (BDC) jointly celebrated the groundbreaking ceremony of the Funan Techo Canal project with a drum-beating event. The event was led by Dr. LIM Aun, Chief Executive Officer of the Bank, and H.E. Im Sokthy, Executive Director of BDC, and was attended by staff at all levels and representatives from many other companies. This visionary project, initiated by Samdech Techo Hun Sen, President of the Senate and Chairman of the Supreme Council of the King of Cambodia, is being implemented by the Royal Government of Cambodia of the Seventh Legislature of the National Assembly.
The Funan Techo Canal project will become a historical heritage for future generations and significantly contribute to Cambodia’s socio-economic development by promoting the transportation sector and attracting investment. This includes the creation of special economic zones, industrial areas, and processing sectors.
SME Bank of Cambodia would like to express its support and pride for this project. Notably, the project spans 180 kilometers long, stretching from Prek Takeo of the Mekong River through Prek Ta Ek and Prek Ta Hing of the Bassac River in Kandal province’s Koh Thom district, and extending to Kep province. It passes through Kandal, Takeo, Kampot, and Kep provinces, hosting a collective population of 1.6 million along its banks.

On May 20,2024, in Tokyo, H.E Dr. PHAN Phalla, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Economy and Finance and Chairman of the Board of Directors of SME Bank of Cambodia presided over and led the delegates that included the Board of Directors, and the senior management of the Bank. The delegation paid a visit to the Policy Research Institute (PRI), the Ministry of Finance, Japan; and the Micro Business and Individual Unit, Japan Finance Corporation (JFC-Micro).
